I'm back from Asia and have been for a while, I've had a great time in Thailand and met some awesome people but it's good to be back! While I've been away I've created a website and have worked hard to find myself an agency called "ArtBox" to help kick off my career in illustration. It's been a crazy year I'm lucky to have people to support me while I try to make my career in the arts work.

Growing up in a small town I was convinced by others that I would be set for life if I just honed my skills. I thought I was set, but there is SO much more work to be done. Sometimes you luck out on just your talents or style, but most the time you have to find and ride a trending wave, work hard and/or spend a lot of time creating your own style or one that'll sell. Finding a style is something I struggled with and still struggle with to this day, people think that because I have a diverse style that I should be more desirable by clients but in illustration I've realized not having your own style can be detrimental. Long story short achieving your dreams is rarely easy, it takes a lot of work and sometimes you'll think your lost, but it's all worth it.

I get asked how I got to the point I'm at with my art. It's a huge compliment because I don't see my art as being good (many artists work this way). Really there is no technique, everyone is different, but after this year I have discovered some things you CAN do to get better at drawing without losing your mind with pressure in the industry today. These are some of the things, I hope they help:

Always draw in your spare time, learn new techniques and observe.
Look at other artist's work and practice their techniques WITHOUT getting down on yourself.
Allow yourself to be inspired and unique.
► Don't pay out your ass for schooling, you can learn everything for free online.
► Draw daily if you can, do studies of different animals, colour palettes, etc.
► Be social online, market yourself, stay on trend and draw some fan pieces (Loki, Dr.Who, Disney, Etc.) to gather a following.

  • Listening to: Get Free - Major Lazer
  • Reading: Game of Thrones
  • Watching: Dr.Who
  • Playing: Pokemon X
  • Eating: Ramen Noodles
  • Drinking: Water
